frandroid: Head of Jack Layton photoshopped onto a very muscular man wearing a sleeveless NDP t-shirt (layton)

Bob Rae's federal constituency, before downloading himself to provincial politics, was what's now Toronto-Danforth. Will Rae attempt to become the Layton slayer?

i don't think he'll run in ontario, period. & if he does, it'll be a liberal-safe riding.

i don't think he'll stand a chance in an NDP riding after turning turncoat.

I disagree. I think he could well do this. People have short memories. (And non-NDPers may ADMIRE him for turncoating)

And am I allowed to dread the advent of Justin Trudeau? Am I obliged? Will he take Outremont? He'll be more into Grand Visions than Paul Martin.

i'm hoping for the advent of the justin trudeau, ben mulroney caged death match. showcased on global tv, even. that's what i want out of canadian politics these days.

BRILLIANT!!! I think that's even the riding where Brian Mulroney lives, unless he's actually in Westmount, which is just next door anyway, like the Trudeaus.

I think for Rae to face Layton would burnish his credentials, a final catharsis to accept him into the party. And even though Layton won by a larger margin last time, it's not a safe riding at all. Running a Trudeau constitutionalist last time was a good idea, and she did well in spite of little actually earned personal profile, so someone of Rae's stature could do it. I mean, I think toppling Layton is a very achievable goal for the Liberals, they just have to find the right person.

On the flipside, if Rae loses, that would be a kind of honorable way for him to go, not glorious but not infamous either. I mean I think he doesn't really want to be a second-fiddle in the Liberal Cabinet, unless he thinks Dion will go quickly.

Maybe I should friend this entry before I give anyone ideas ;]
