Slipped in that story: Air Canada gives MD-11 plane for Quake relief efforts. Must have been mothballed, and they're probably going to get a nice tax credit out of it, but still: nice.

(I know the lockout is over. But with 3 lock-outs in 5 years, it's worth pre-empting the next one. *sigh*)

One year before being elected for the first time to the House of Commons, Joe Clark was at a Liberal association meeting in his riding, looking on as the sitting MP was being endorsed. Clark, who was there with Peter Newman, confided to the latter:
"There is only one proper way for a conservative to get in the HoC: by taking down a liberal." And he did.

Indian Kashmir has summer and winter capitals. I think the tradition goes at least as far back as the Mughal Empire. I wish Canada had a summer capital, a place like Iqaluit, Alert or Yellowknife... Ottawa's pleasant enough for winter. Maybe we could have spring and fall capitals too.
