I've been really negligent in my board duties at the coop, I had to drag myself to the meeting tonight after skipping the last one at the last minute. Manbaby who usually kept talking over everyone had kept pretty quiet this time (except to keep us on a track a few times!) We spent 3 hours discussing stuff, and then we decided we were pooped so we were going to cut the meeting short and suddenly manbaby LOST IT because we didn't get to his agenda and it was not FAIR! And also we didn't answer his EMAILS! I recognized this because I have lost my cool in exactly the same way before (twice at a previous job, and too many times elsewhere) but it was somewhat amusing nonetheless. The only problem is that I wasn't as mature as my fellow (female) board members who tried to mollify him so I kept quiet because I was just going to antagonize him.
Another month, another board meeting
Sep. 20th, 2023 08:27 pmOne of the blabbermouths is presiding over this month's meeting, where she's not supposed to be opining that much about stuff without handing the chair to someone else. So she's asked to hand the chair to someone else on every single issue we've had to discuss, at one point doing so to go off-topic when it's her job to keep us on topic. I've just decided to disconnect from the meeting for 5 minutes every time people are starting to have fruitless or off-topic conversations. I'm on my third departure so far.
weird accounting
Sep. 11th, 2023 07:17 pmWeirdo accountant repetitively starts speaking over board members before they are done asking questions. When one member asserts herself to finish her question when he tries to interrupt her for the fourth time, he starts his answer by "please let me speak". In Québec, we call that "avoir du front tout le tour de la tête", literally having forehead already around your head, i.e. being beyond bold.
When we try to adjust some budget lines, at the "adjust budget lines before we present the budget to our members" meeting, the accountant says "you can keep the budget as I set it and then decide to spend the money differently later". Huh dude, no, we're going to adjust the budget. But of course we're spending most of the time bike-shedding the budget, so he's almost right...
