My Intro to Polisci T.A. said that this electoral defeat could spark a more left-wing Democratic party. I disagreed, saying that the Democrats need to make inroads in the creationist christian voting bloc. I may have mentioned this here earlier.

So anyway, I don't know jack shit about this, except that I think it's a catholic rather than protestant idea, but what about liberation theology? Like, we keep talking about the Religious Right, but where is the Religious Left? I mean the NDP here in Canada was pretty much founded by the United Church, and even two years ago we had Bill Blaikie, a UC minister, run for the leadership.

I mean it's not like the NDP is eating away at the Conservative Party vote, but still. Maybe the Democrats need to come to Canada to learn some lessons from our prairie MPs. 8)

Speaking of liberation theology, I heard that evangelical missionaries are poaching through catholic ranks across the developing world. Why am I upset at this? Is this my residual catholicism? If I stayed in line with my political beliefs, I should embrace protestant cults rather than the Pope...

Speaking of religion, we had a show of hands in my India tutorial today. I was the only atheist. Granted, about half the tutorial is second-generation South Asians, but still. If you had asked this question in Québec, there would have been *at least* 5 hands raised.

You may not know, but as of late the Evangelical church is very much split, there are new ranks forming of liberation evangelicals! I kid you not.. it'll balance things out.

if the dems want to court a 'religious left', they'll need to nominate a pseudo-religious figure for president or veep. the gop is simply getting the benefit of the moral doubt, and i think it would take that kind've gesture to sway them.

and speaking of atheism in classes...in a 3rd year literary theory class, we once did a similar thing - perhaps not surprisingly, everyone was atheist or agnostic.
