More useless "updates"

Aurora (the Firefox alpha stream) now shows URLs at the bottom right of the screen when I hover over a link, if the search bar is displayed. Who thought this was a necessary change? Who's been clamouring for this? The worst problem of open source development is design by committee... Give someone the design hat and let them design in peace.

My personal feeling is they should make it run faster, because right now chrome is eating their lunch. Of course, that's partly because chrome has so many fewer addons, so people don't weigh it down like a christmas tree with bells and hoots.

The main issue is that Firefox has tons of memory leaks. Sadly, it's actually WORSE on Aurora, where you'd think they're working on the issue, than with the regular version. I frequently look up the memory usage, and after a couple hours' use: 1.5 gig in RAM, 1.something in virtual memory. Totally unacceptable, it just slows down to a crawl. Close down the leaks and this baby will run just fine. It's been two years (since v.3 came out) and they're making the problem worse, not better. Firefox 4 or 5 was briefly working fine but then by the next release they broke it again.

Regarding the add-ons, they're now running tests on them and pointing fingers to the worst offenders in terms of slowing down the browser. That's forced some people to patch up... If only they did the same thing on internal components of the browser.

Yeah, the leak on the new version they pushed onto my win 7 laptop is so bad it's almost crippling. I watch the memory overhead just balloon.

Is there any place to see the ratings on which addons are hogs?

And why DON'T they fix these leaks in the browser? It's going to kill the project! It's only the extreme customizability that's keeping me with it at this point...
