Holy fuck. Hostel prices double on Fridays in Amsterdam. Good thing I leave on Friday morning. Also, that was an awfully last-minute booking. I'm not quite as centrally located as I could have been, had I planned ahead. Anyways. It just means I'll have to hire a bike.

My mother suggested that I keep a travel diary. While I think I'll have free internet the whole time, I think I'll get a paper thing anyway. I certainly remember the hostel in NYC which had 3 terminals for about 100 people.

Make sure you keep all your stuff with you in Amsterdam. They will steal your clothes if you don't watch them. Seriously. A girl had her cardigan that her dad gave her stolen in the hostel I was at. :( Bikes are routinely stolen as well (that's why they drive pushpedal bikes, because they are crap).

When I went there, I booked a hostel the day of my stay. There must be some like that still, who don't have internet sites. You can probably change your reservation if you find a deal, don't you think?

Thanks for the heads up. I was wary but F was like "ah you worry too much" (with is a serious role-reversal in this relationship :])

I could try to find something the day of, but many hostels are quite more expensive so I think I'll stick to my 20 Euro bed, esp. since I won't have too much time to explore the city...

i had a very pleasant time in amsterdam, though i was staying with friends who live there. the weather is great right now.
