Oops, the first option should have read something like, "I'd never have joined his side!" Anyway.

I need to make this poll funny. I swear that was my intent when I started, but then I got stuck in History...

So why would you have broken ranks in 1965?

Because his obsession with "defeating imperialism" lead him to break up with the Soviet Union, China's most important ally, accusing it of having renewed with imperialism itself and renewed class divisions... It's also the year that the most important revolutionary struggles that China was supporting fell apart (Indonesia is a big one) and it ended up being all alone in the whole world. :]

Although I must say, I skipped the Great Leap Forward... Hmmm.

I don't know. I'm reading a bit of his ideology through secondary sources and I understand why "everyone was a Maoist" back then, as my prof said.

Okay, you have to redefine what a ticky box is for me again, I read your explanation once but I had a brain leak. Hence the ticky what?

Talking with [Unknown site tag], I can kind of see why everyone is going a bit Maoist now. Not that I'm too keen on Mao himself, what, with all of the massacres and such.

I'm not sure I ever explained the ticky box thing. Ticky boxes are those little buttons on a poll that you check for your answer.

Why I put "ticky box!" as an option on every poll is because one can't view poll results at a glance without answering it first. Say I'm throwing up a poll because I can't decide whether I want to dye my hair red, purple, or green. If I check any one of those, it affects the poll results, so I started putting "ticky box!" as a way to not answer my own questions. Of course, it turns out to be the most popular answer have the time, because no one can resist checking a ticky box that's actually labelled "ticky box!"

I still need to see a resolution of the dictatorship contradiction in "people's dictatorship", myself. hehehe.

And "violence radicalizes" for sure, but that works for both sides, with more people killed. But Mao's perspective was definitely impacted by the fact that he lead the most populous nation on earth, and casualities just didn't matter. :I That's convenient.

Like Mao, I'm also a big believer in purges, but I like them to happen at the very top. So that's why I see a positive side in Harper's election. 8)

See I would have practically broke from Mao because of the Great Leap Forward, I sure as hell dont want millions of people's souls botherin me in my sleep. However, ideologically I dont think I have necessarily broken with Mao. I think that he did move Marxist-Leninist Thought forward, and helped developed a Third World Marxism, which is being enacted in Nepal, India, Philippines, Kurdistan/Turkey etc. However, I would like to have a discussion about Lin Biao, just because of his influence on the Indian Maoist movement. I mean should we repudiate Lin Biao's theories just because of his treachery and excesses of the Cultural Revolution?

I didn't read very much about Lin Biao... Just that people about Long Live, and something about how Mao liked him because he put personal advancement ahead of ideological righteousness. Who knows what the world would look like if his daughter hadn't accidentally ratted on him though?
