Bypassing Obama, the U.S. House passes bill condemning bloodshed in Iran
“This resolution is not about American interests,” Mr. Berman said. “It’s about American values, which I believe are universal values: the values of the rule of law; of participatory democracy; about individual liberty and about justice. And it is on behalf of those universal values not American interests that I urge this body to support this resolution.”
While of course this gets in line with American interests, I think the core of the rationale is sound, and that the United States should stand against military dictatorships everywhere, which is what Iran is turning into if Admadinejad/Khamenei survive this uprising. Of course, the U.S. has been picky about which military dictatorship it chooses to oppose (ahem not Egypt), but I think here Obama is clearly missing the boat.
Now can someone explain to me why I'm more in line with Republicans than Democrats here (even though this resolution passed 405 to 1) ?
