for some reason i think it's funny that this special olbermann report made internet rounds, especially since he's rarely this passionate or emotional. usually he's all "GRRRR BILL O'REILY GRRRRRRRRRRRRR" and just pissed off everything. i especially like his "Worst Person in the World" segments, but this is so out of character! anyway, i'm glad he said something about it, because it's not like anyone else on american news would have.
(ps - it's also weird that he says he doesn't really have a personal investment in this stuff (family, friends, or colleagues), but he is obviously buddies with rachel maddow who appears on his show all the time. maybe she doesn't have any struggles that relate to her being gay).
Seems like MSNBC has finally realized that "liberals" actually do spend money, and that having a spine can be profitable! Maybe one day this realization will make its way to broadcast TV.
They like processed cheese. Which seems fairly on point; I was trying to analyze my reaction to this clip awhile back and I think I found the 'cheese' factor overwhelming because Oberman isn't a very good actor, and the more genuinely emotional he became the more he seemed to try to filter that emotion through his kind of understandably-limited journalist 'acting'.
It was like his broadcast persona didn't understand how to convey what his actual person wanted to say, and so instead it came out all extra-hammy precisely when it was actually most genuine.
The day Americans clamor for a BBC-like newsman, I'll be in the front of the line with the hallelujahs.
I tend to like Olbermann more when he's saying stuff I agree with, but this one was better I think because he wasn't being all self righteous, but was saying stuff he seemed to actually believe. Maybe it's because I agree with him so much on this one - I cannot for the life of me understand why keeping "the gays" in California from marrying matters to anyone at all. But we live in Canada where same-sex marriage has been legal for how long now. But I digress.
What I mean to say is, after a while it's possible to develop a Keith filter where you can ignore the cheese and ham. I have.
