So I've only gone to see live comedy twice in my life (that I can remember of anyway). The first time was with work in 2019, we went to Yuk Yuk's which was next door to work, a large work group, like 70 people... and wow, it sucked. Out of 5 performers, one had been good, another decent, and 3 were bad, of which one was bad enough (racism I think?) that I heckled them.

So anyway, I was like, the local scene sucks. Whatever.

Last night my new job had us out for dinner since one of our coworkers was visiting Toronto from out of town, and then we went to the Comedy Bar, an underground (physically) bar with a small stage and room, like 50 people fit comfortably in there. This was monday night comedy, not exactly when you'd scheduled the best acts on I guess, but oh my god, they KILLED. The first act was a male-female duo which had probably a 30-year difference (the dude was the younger one) and they had amazing chemistry, and half their set was crazy good improv. The middle set was a trans woman (Aoife something, missed her last name) who was hilarious, talking about trans stuff, sharp and smart humour. Then the top act were these three middle-aged dudes (3 speed something...) who improved their whole set, three/four skits, and they were a lot of fun, though they were able to break each other up a little too easily. :) My friend/new boss used to live around there and says that he was over there all the time. I think I'll make some time to check it out once in a while.

ETA: We're probably going to see Bassem Youssef in a week, he added an extra show.
