frandroid: Major Kira Nerys from DS9 (trek)
Whoa, those costumes on Persephone III were awesome.

Okay, so SNW is cute so far, going in the right direction. Pike is smug as hell, hopefully he loses a bit of that soon.

I wish Paramount didn't copy Star Wars' opening logo bit... Knock it off. And the only reason I'll forgive them for copying Drummer's look is if it's the same make-up artist, which it could be, given that both series are shot in Toronto.

Fucking Cancelled - Talking Shit with Dr. Christine Marie: Breaking the Spell of Cancellation

I am super interested in the topic of this podcast, cancel culture within the Left, but the hosts like the sound of their voice way too much. One of the first episodes was over two hours long; they could really edit themselves down to their most salient points. In spite of that, they do explore an interesting thesis for their podcast: there's a culture of bullying in the Left that they call the Nexus, where people can get jumped on by crowds who pile-on to harass people, based on thinly-established accusations that become less relevant as the bullying spreads, which is intended to make the bullies feel better about themselves more than they are interested in so-called justice.

As is custom on such long-winded podcasts, the better episodes are when the hosts bring in a smart guest to take the centre stage and shake things up a bit. In this episode, they bring in psychologist Christine Marie to talk about the impact of being the victim of a cancel campaign. Dr. Marie exposes the layers of humiliation and their impact one's the psyche and self-image.

"In Episode 8, we sit down with US-based media psychologist Dr. Christine Marie to discuss her research paper titled The Traumatic Impact of Media Humiliation, Misrepresentation and Victim-Shaming on Narrative Identity and Well-Being. We unpack the traumatic impact of media campaigns of humiliation and misrepresentation, including Dr. Marie's findings that these campaigns produce symptoms indicative of Complex PTSD. We explore the psychological distancing and victim blaming methods people use to justify their mistreatment of those targeted by these campaigns. Most importantly, we discuss healing, growth, and the work of reclaiming our lives after cancellation."

Interestingly, when I first posted about this podcast, someone PM'ed to tell me to spread some gossip about the hosts of this podcast. That would be something that the hosts would be impervious to, as they reveal having been cancelled a few times (!), to have participated in cancel culture themselves, and ask almost every guest to reveal their own participation in and victimization at the hands of cancel culture.

#PodcastFriday is a tag where people recommend a particularly good episode from a podcast. The point of this tag is NOT to recommend entire podcasts--there are too many podcasts out there, and our queues are already too long, so don't do that. Let's just recommend the cream of the crop, the episodes that made you *brainsplode* or laugh like crazy.
