Zine blurbs
Sep. 16th, 2020 01:55 amWow, I hadn't written zine blurbs in a long, very long time. I had to write some this year because Canzine has gone virtual, and is basically going to be an online store. Short story: I really suck at it! I'm so out of practice. It's really difficult to take a publication with many topics and not make it a simple list of topics, while also capturing the essence of the thing that makes it fascinating. You can drop buzzwords but you have to be careful not to overdo it...
I also have to provide pictures of zines. In the past I had a scanner, and then when it stopped working on newer macs, I would use the office photocopier to scan things, but now there is no office. So I gave it the gold old "scan it with your phone" try. I have no idea how it's going to be laid out on the Canzine site, they're talking about making it like either a JRPG or some other weird layout, which is not promising. This virtual canzine sounds like a giant mess, but one with ambition, and I have a special place in my heart for messy ambition. Mess it up, and mess it up good!!
I was just writing a blurb for the Future Generation compendium--my blurb sucks but the book is still bloody fantastic.
