Okay, I commented a bit sarcastically to
moths' previous "I'll just be hands off now" post, but I didn't know the background, which I have now read. Some of my comments about group democracy apply though.
On a different angle, some people have expressed, like me, the opinion that this community is pretty stale, in particular that it mostly seems to be about announcements about zines or even some inane stuff like "my distro's going to be closed for the next two weeks, don't order anything!!" which is stunningly inconsiderate, considering the 3000 people who watch or are members of this community. (My own recommendation: distro closings should be posted on the distro's own website, since people are very likely to USE said website before ordering. Makes sense, doesn't it?)
I think that
moths' newly announced hands-off approach is a little too laissez-faire for my taste; I find that large communities that have little moderation end up looking like crap because there are always people at the fringes that abuse the freedom allowed. I find that communities with a good team of moderators, but mostly clear posting guidelines end up being the best.
So with that in mind, I would like to make this post an open thread to discuss which posting and discussion guidelines we would like to see apply in
zine_scene.
Rather than having a discussion in each post as to whether it is relevant, I think that pre-establishing guidelines and then giving moderators the authority to enforce the guidelines saves everyone a lot of grief and wasted time. I mean, again, this is a community of 3000 posters, we don't need to have these discussions for every post.
So let's discuss.
