Dec. 22nd, 2004 02:33 amSo I was listening to a CBC news report about rising housing vacancy rates across the country. They interviewed someone from Greenwin, a big apartment rental company in Toronto. They were asking about why rental prices hadn't come down, considering the high vacancy rates. The guy said that if they were to rent the apartments for cheaper, they'd get people who don't respect the property as much, who are more likely to be late on their payments, etc. This is such complete garbage. As if low-income people were not already renting those units already! It costs a fortune to rent everywhere in the city already, it's not like suddenly people will start swarming from the countryside to invade Toronto and blow up buildings or something.
Anyway, if they can bleed for a bit longer, they'll have to yield and lower their unit prices anyway. I don't think that's going to help me in my area though.
