Nov. 5th, 2003 12:20 am...Take for example, the case of the Anishnabek (Ojibway) community of Asubpeeschoseewagong (Grassy Narrows), located 80 kilometres north of Kenora, in present-day Ontario, Canada. Grassy Narrows is one of 26 reservations that form a part of the traditional land use area of the Anishnabek people. Looking at select experiences of the 800 residents of Grassy Narrows, in just the last few decades, the physical and cultural genocide perpetrated against indigenous communities throughout Turtle Island (North America), is visibly apparent.
