Indeed... I was looking around on Facebook and joined a couple groups. In one of them, someone dropped a picture of a shirtless Charles Vane saying "for the ladies!!!" and suddenly I realized what the "No SJWs!!!" warning in the group form meant. I did not get in trouble for reminding that person that not only women like hot men, so there might be hope.
Just the realization that the Vane beefcake thirst post "for the ladies" I saw in some group was really different than the twitter convos I see about Black Sails... I hadn't thought of Black Sails in a non-queer way before (and I'm pretty straight), and then looking back at that group, I realized that people just completely ignore that part of the series, as if it's not a central part of the plot, and instead focus on a more traditional/heteronormative understanding of pirates...
