Since the demise of Thirsty and Miserable, my Sunday shopping in Kensington Market doesn't have me stop every time to have a pint or two, but I recently noticed that the Embassy Bar was again featuring Saint-Ambroise stout on tap (nitro), which is one of my favourite beers ever, so I stopped for a halfie. Bartender was side-eyeing me while she was waiting to finish the order before me, but it turns out that she was staring at my "Friend of Garak" t-shirt, and she mentioned plowing through DS9 and Voyager for the first time in the last year, so she's a re/new/ed trekkie. She was just SO EXCITED to meet someone to talk about this stuff. She said it would be interesting to organize some sort of Trek GT and I was like "welp, FanExpo exists" just to impress that Trek fandom was not a rare thing. Just on cue, some other customer comes about, notices us talking about Trek, high fives are exchanged, and he mentions how the whole TNG cast was at FanExpo a few years back. Fast friend was quite jealous of having missed this opportunity. She told me about how she dressed as Uhura as the main of her three (3) Halloween costumes last year. I don't know how these keeners do it but it's super endearing.
Also it was Pedestrian Sunday and I can't impress how much I hate it. It's super crowded and annoying for people who actually want to shop. I really don't want the city to pedestrianize the Market. The Market is hip when there's car traffic, but it turns into a (local) tourist attraction during Pedestrian Sunday. I mean it's always touristy, but somehow "induced demand" also works on pedestrians.
