In the work chat on Friday I mentioned that I was taking the afternoon off, one coworker who lives in Montréal said "hey you're coming to see me?" and I said "well you can come see my table at the Anarchist bookfair!"

I had kind of forgotten that I work for a Québec City company, and while many coworkers are fairly progressive, the bosses are kind of close-minded in spite of being nice people who want very much to create a welcoming company culture. The very idea of an anarchist fair was surprising to them and got ribbed on. Anyway, I just let them stew on it.

The drive there was fairly good except when we got to Montréal where there was crazy 11pm traffic. Got some grief for my driving from dear passenger because I'm trying to keep my place in it... Almost smashed into someone while being distracted into the argument. Like, pick your time.

The fair on Saturday was slow but I was tabling under a canopy outdoors so that was really neat. So much better than tabling in a stuffy room... Masks were mandatory indoors, but there was no enforcement. It was still the best masked location I've been at since... last year's bookfair in August.

Later in the day, [personal profile] ioplokon (which I just noticed is not spelled ioklopon, I'm going to have to rewire my brain) joined us and that was a lot of fun. He, dear passenger and myself really hit it off over our love of art film. :) Eventually my hosts and their children joined us and we had interesting vegan sushi. It was quite tasty but didn't really feel like sushi? I think it was my partner that noticed the lack of wasabi and ginger pickle, and that's just the start of it... Anyway, it's vegan sushi--1 for 1 imitation is a non-starter here, so better tasty than faithful.

Had a good late night chat with my hosts... We're so thankful that they have us over every time we go there but really, they enjoy our company very much, so that's neat. Passenger and I had lots of fun discussing their Shetland sheepdog in the morning.

Sunday was day 2 of the fair, hotter than the day before but we were still in the shade. I think I ended up spending more on restocking books than my total sales, but that's fine, I'll resell them later. Sold out of a number of good zines that people weren't looking at for years, so I'm glad for that. Noticed that I'm getting dangerously low on zine titles; I will have to start going through my unread pile and start sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Something that hurt was the total car rental and gasoline cost, which ended up ringing in at $400. Ouch! I could have saved by renting the car earlier but I got worms for brains. Let that be a planning lesson.

The drive back was pretty clear so that was great. Dear passenger was able to drive halfway through before it got too dark for them. My rental car's bottom plastic shield was half-broken so I had to tape it up to stop worrying noises...

Alright that was a bit pêle-mêle, but anyway.
