Factory Inspections Uncover Abuses at Gap. Pretty good article by Associated Press about how the Gap's efforts at going after its sweatshop contractors in China. Who knew that shopping at the Gap would become kosher again?!

I think that with the quota system down in the textile industry, and the ensuing flood of cheap chinese, indian and pakistani clothing, someone somewhere will have to create an independent "sweatfree" certification like they have for organic food and such.

Another reason why Cuba is cool

Cuba gives free and full medical education to black people from poor areas of the United States that can't afford the education, on the condition that they start practicing medicine in the area that they came from.

Cuba has 65,000 doctors, which is about the same number Canada has, but which is about 3 times more per capita.
