Hopefuls for Tim Hortons Kandahar outlet get survival training

Holy fuck, Canadians could apply for working at Timmy Ho's in Afghanistan? Why didn't they tell me? I would have gone!

Well, yes...

...but from the article, it sounds like it's only being staffed by people who are already in the armed forces.

At least 100 Canadians have applied for the 15 jobs, but it seems they are looking for people with Tim's experience. Oh well. I'll stick to Whitehorse. 8)

Evil! I suppose a Micky D's isn't far behind. Gah.

I don't know. MacDonalds is not linked to Canadian identity like Tim's is. But anyway, I'm serious. I would have applied. :]

Oh, I wasn't talking about Canadian identity, as such. I was talking of the bad side effects of globalization hitting Afghanistan. That being substandard food being pushed as better than the local food. And brand nameage and all that.

Oh, I see what you mean, but this is a different case. Canadian soldiers in Kandahar have specifically asked for Tim's and the demand was so widespread that our armed forces have decided to open up their own franchise on the base. This isn't being foistered upon Afghans themselves. :]
