I am an interests-whore. I am consistently remodelling my LJ interests list. The first thing I do when I add a new user in my friends list is to load up their interests list so that I can add those that we share. However I am always a bit too enthusiastic, so I end up adding far too many interests... Things that I think are cool, but that I don't actually pay much attention to. So I go through a regular purge as well, like I just did. I think that eventually I'd like to boil down the list to some 25 interests, things that really define me. ("vegan lesbians" ? veganism yeah, lesbians yeah, both together yeah, but as a specific interest? nah. that just looked cute in [livejournal.com profile] ethosgurl's list. Yet I keep adding stuff.

Lists are fun.

I am an interests-whore.

Thank you for writing this post so I didn't have to 8) My personal recommendation is keeping an eye out for unique, not-hypertext-yet interests first established (trail blazed?) by friends -- I note that you have picked up on a few of mine. (In fact, of all my contacts I think you and I have the most items on each others' lists; the question is, does this indicate that we have the most shared interests or the least to learn from each other?) (ah, me and my endless false dichotomies...)

Beware that you are presently 10 mere items away from the interest-cap of 150, though you've likely already determined that particular constraint on yr own. (And yay for not making one of those items sex -- because if I only have 150 things I can say to set myself apart from the thousands already here, why not make my point with characteristics not presumably shared with 98% of them? Y'know, I get a charge out of eating, sleeping, shitting, being bipedal and having opposable thumbs also, but they don't really tell you anything about me other than that I am (maybe) also human.)

hah. I didn't know that there was a limit. You've obviously been abusing more than I have. Sex and girls have been quite annoying to see in people's profiles indeed. I just removed "art" and "travel" among others.

I can't bring myself to admit to having any interests at all.
