That book is all about flexing writing muscles...

"look at the poesy of this mongol horde" *flex*
"look at my insane message delivery mechanism" *flex*
"look at my delicate use of obscure vocabulary" *flex*
"look the multicoloured shimmer coming off this techno-*topia" *flex*

My eyes just keep popping out of their sockets. Damn, you guys can write.

It's too perfect.

I felt that there was a lot of this to the point where I didn't quite get what was going on. I started to read it again, and it started to make more sense, but there are other books in this world.

Yeah it had a fair bit of "story babble", where the prose was there for its own sake rather than driving the story per se. Almost like poetry in prose.
