[livejournal.com profile] chapatimystery brings to light some of the unsavory connections of two of Obama's new peeps... Many people have talked about Rahm Emanuel and his commitment to Zionism, but Sepoy also brings up Sonal Shah's RSS roots. In a latter entry, Sepoy writes about his belief that Obama cannot be summed by his advisers, but commenters aren't so hopeful. Someone in the comments there links to CounterPunch's devastating profile of Shah's Sangh Parivar connections, and an explanation of why that's bad, for those who don't follow Hindu-supremacist politics. The article also describes the Center for American Process, the Democratic thinktank where Obama's transition team comes from. What's the point of evincing Hillary when you get all of Bill's people in?

Special kudos to [livejournal.com profile] esizzle for kicking me in the pants about Rahmbo.

If Shah holds extremist/racist views, it would presumably have been hard for her to advance in the Democratic party. The entire Counterpunch argument seems to be that she and her family have ties to the VHPA, and that she did not go out of her way to deny allegations made during a screaming match. Nothing in there about her side of things, or that of her brother, who the author emailed. Now I dislike the Sangh as much as the next guy, but I would like to know more about what Shah actually did for the organization (and for how long) before drawing any definite conclusions. I'd also like to know more about just what the VHPA (as opposed to VHP) does.

I would assume that the VHPA would fundraise for the VHP, is all.

Remember this? I wouldn't underestimate the ability of Sangh activists to maintain double lives in the face of most Americans not knowing anything about India.

Counterpunch also said Jon McCain was the number one voice of the North Vietnamese. It would be a shame if they ever had anything legit to say, because it would be lost in bullshit.
