Maybe you've seen the "two Bushes" footage... That was at the Press Conrrespondents Dinner in Washington. What came right after that was much funnier...

Stephen Colbert roasts President Bush

I think Jon Stewart would have done a better job. I found Stephen mildly amusing, but admired him for going after and mocking Bush in front of the most conservative crowd ever. I did find his "application tape" kind of dull after the first 15 seconds. However, kudos to Stephen for doing what so many of us have tried, which is to demonstrate to Bush that his policies are globally and locally destructive.

I don't know about Stewart... for one thing, he was incredibly nervous at the oscars and has shown numerous times that he gets easily awed by celebrity. I was feeling small just trying to imagine myself saying the stuff Colbert was saying in that situation. Stewart is straighter to the point, whereas Colbert's character was deliciously subversive in using his admiration for Bush as a way to deride him...

I liked his jibes at the media the most interesting... "you know, fiction".

I agree, the audition tape was stupid... What's with that pursuit?

I agree that Colberts character is deliciously subversive. I just felt that his character was unable to perform on that evening and a number of the jokes fell really flat. Perhaps, it wasn't Colbert as much as the fact that the joke-writers really didnt come up with anything really funny. I mean normally Colbert is pretty good with delivery. Buth something really was missing.
